About Me

Hey there! I’m Courtney Kobos

Here on the blog, we’ll chat all things world literature, engaging and empowering lessons, travel, and how to spend your summers getting paid to teach abroad!

Texas native, North Carolina resident and English teacher, slow travel enthusiast, kickbox novice, bride to be, and lover of sticky notes and lessons that get my students talking about the world.

My teaching journey

When I decided to go to college halfway across the country, I wasn’t yet sure that I wanted to be a teacher. How would I know it was a good fit for me?! I distinctly remember sitting in one of my edu literature classes and hearing about how literature could be both windows and mirrors for students. I was instantly hooked.

I realized that I could combine my passion for learning about other cultures and languages through literature and travel and share that passion in students.

As an undergrad, I spent a semester in England working with ELL students, a summer in Ecuador teaching at an English camp, and a summer as an international camp leader at a university in Texas.

After graduating, I was thrilled to receive a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grant to the Czech Republic. I spent a year in a small town on the border of the Czech Republic and Poland fully enveloped in the local community. I took Czech lessons, spent my weekends attending local festivities, went on lots of field trips with my vocational students (including cow milking and tractor driving!), and even stayed in a castle.

What will be in my blog?

Teacher Tips: World Literature, English II EOC prep and resources, engaging activities

Teaching English: Because I am a relatively new teacher, most of my posts will be about trials, things that work for me, or being a new teacher. I certainly do not have all the answers! Let’s put our brains together.

Teacher Travel: I have a passion for finding cool ways to travel and teach abroad and I’d love to help you do the same! Brb…currently dreaming of another summer in Prague

Fun Travel: I like to share my personal tips and stories of engaging with new places and other cultures. Because of course — life does not stop after school!
